AHLMANN-ZERSSEN GMBH is an internationally active maritime service company, associated with the globally active logistics companies Peterson/Control Union, Rotterdam and Hudig & Veder, Rhoon.
Each year from August or September, 1st AHLMANN-ZERSSEN offers two to three young people a vocational education at Rendsburg and Rostock as a shipping and chartering manager for tramp trades.
Generally the training takes 3 years, but can be shortened, whereby the prospective shipping and chartering managers get their dual education for one part in block classes at a vocational school at the city of Kiel and on the other hand by practical work in our company.
Shipping and chartering managers in tramp trades keep in contact with customers worldwide, plan and arrange the transport of goods by sea. They ensure that the ships are fully utilized, organize and acquire freight and cargo, book cargo space and arrange ship and cargo handling in the ports. After completing their training, shipping and chartering managers can commit themselves to different priorities, e.g. as port agents who are responsible for the handling of ships in the ports or as chartering brokers to bring ship and cargo together.
Due to the different service areas that AHLMANN-ZERSSEN offers, prospective shipping and chartering managers obtain an extensive education that can only be found in a few companies. One or two-week stays in other branches / subsidiaries and a stay abroad round it off nicely. Depending on our companies´ possibilities, AHLMANN-ZERSSEN seeks to employ their trainees after the end of the vocational education, whereby there is also the opportunity for trainees to apply to the international Peterson/Control Union group resp. Hudig & Veder depending on appropriate suitability and successfull graduation.
